Items Affected:
About 12,200 2012 and 2013 Specialized brand bicycles and framesets are being recalled due to an improperly manufactured assembly part. The steerer tube in the bicycle’s front fork can break while in use, causing a severe fall and injury hazard. The model name “Tarmac SL4,” “Crux” or “Secteaur” is located on the frame of the affected items.
This recall includes all models of the 2012 Tarmax SL4, 2013 Tarmac SL4, 2013 Crux, and 2013 Secteaur Disc bicycles that were manufactured and imported from Taiwan and China.
Injuries:
Two injuries have already been reported as a result of the defective equipment. One of these injuries required stitches and emergency medical attention for severe facial lacerations. It is imperative that if you own a bicycle with these defective parts that you stop riding it immediately to avoid serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.
